In the meantime, here are some in-home care tips we created to help you start out on a solid foundation.

Find a Caregiving Support Group

The time and responsibility that goes into caregiving may feel overwhelming at times—especially if the person in need of home care is either a loved one or close friend. Though you want to do everything in your ability to help your client, over time, it may begin to take a toll on your body and mental health. Being part of a caregiving support group can help! You’ll be surrounded by others like you and have the freedom to discuss your concerns openly with the end goal of coming up with positive solutions as a caregiving team.

Budget Your Time

When your job affects the wellbeing of another individual, it’s essential that you try to stay organized and on schedule. Sometimes, using a calendar app to set reminders for important job responsibilities, such as when to administer medications, can help you stay on track. At Best Home Care, we offer employee digital timesheets, so they can easily access, complete, and electronically sign their timesheets right from their smartphones for added convenience.

Learn As Much As You Can

In addition to professional caregiver training, make it a habit to conduct your own research to learn more caregiving tips and to stay informed on what type of health conditions are affecting your loved ones. Ask other family caregivers questions and don’t be afraid to ask for advice.

Take Care of Yourself

In order to provide the best home care possible, you need to feel your best first! Don’t overcommit yourself or put strain on your body that could harm you or limit your abilities to provide adequate care. In addition, if you’re feeling ill, take some PTO, so you can properly rejuvenate your mind and body. Remember, if you catch a cold or flu, you put your client at risk of getting sick, too. Eat healthy, get plenty of rest, and make it a point to stretch before you engage in activities that require bending or lifting.
