Family caregivers and personal care assistants (PCAs) do a lot for their care recipients. Many go above and beyond daily to empower people to live life to its fullest potential.
So, in honor of National Family Caregiver Month, we are sharing a few tips on how to show your appreciation this month for all the hard work PCAs do.
As a general guide, rewards for caregiver appreciation should be timely and sincere. National Family Caregiver Month is an excellent time to show your support for caregivers, but try to show your thanks throughout the year. Simply saying “thank you” or expressing how much you appreciate them can go a long way.
If you want to express gratitude with something more concrete, here are a few ways that we can recommend.
Caregivers will often struggle to make time for themselves. Gifts encouraging them to invest in self-care shows that you care while helping them to spend time looking after themselves. For example, gift vouchers for wellness treatments, meal deliveries, or a gift card for their favorite local restaurant can encourage them to treat themselves at their convenience.
Sending flowers or a small gift basket to a family caregiver is another way to show appreciation and will start his or her day on a positive note!
If you're on a budget, you can also bake your famous chocolate chip cookies or pumpkin pie (it is almost the holidays, after all). Most people love getting treats fresh from the oven. So, if you already know which recipes your caregiver enjoys, you can make roll up your sleeves and get to work!
A handwritten note from a child the PCA works for will often be treasured more than any other gift.
In addition to a handwritten note, you could ask your child to paint a picture or decorate a thank you card for a caregiver. Such personal mementos are often well-received.
If you have any other questions about how to reward your caregiver or anything related to being a PCA, don’t hesitate to reach out to the team at Best Care!
We, too, will be celebrating National Family Caregiver Month by showing our appreciation for the dedicated men and women we have the pleasure of working with at our agency.
