Learn more about CFSS in Minnesota
If you or a loved one requires personal assistance to maintain their independence at home, or if you're currently using personal care assistant (PCA) services, you've likely heard about the upcoming CFSS rollout.
Community First Services and Supports (CFSS) is a new program offered in Minnesota that's designed to offer more flexibility, control, and support for your home care needs.
The CFSS program was approved by the federal government in February 2024. It will replace the existing PCA program and the state-funded Consumer Support Grant (CSG) benefit.
To qualify for CFSS, you must meet the same requirements as for PCA, which includes:
Note that if there are any changes in your condition, you may no longer be eligible for CFSS.
Previously, PCA services prohibited hiring a spouse or parents from providing paid services. However, under the new CFSS program, these individuals can serve as support workers.
You will now have a training and development budget that you or a provider agency like Best Care can use to properly train your support worker.
To aid in your independence, you can purchase goods and services, including a personal emergency response system (PERS).
You now have two different service delivery models to choose from:
Your transition to CFSS will begin with your annual reassessment. Best Care is fully equipped to provide all services available under CFSS as we are an agency and budget model provider. That means you don't have to worry about changing your care team or the quality of the care you receive, regardless of your chosen model.
