8 Kid-Friendly Halloween Movies

October 11, 2023

As the chill of October finally settles in, we all start anticipating the fun and spookiness of Halloween! Whether you go all-out with decorations and activities or enjoy October 31st with just a few well-loved traditions, there is something truly unmissable about this time of the year.

Besides trick-or-treating, there’s no better way to enjoy Halloween with kids than by dusting off some classic, kid-friendly Halloween movies. They don’t have to be scary to be fun! Here are some of our favorites.

Halloween Movies for Kids & Parents

Goosebumps (2015 - PG)

A teen boy meets his neighbor, whose father just happens to be R.L. Stine, the best-selling author of the "Goosebumps" book series. After the monsters are accidentally released from the books, this trio has to return the beasts back to the books where they belong. Parents who grew up in the 90s will love to see the references to the classic tales they read as kids while introducing their kids to the “scare” in a fun, family-friendly way.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993 - PG)

The classic Tim Burton stop-motion animated movie will capture the attention of kids of all ages. Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King, decides to head up Christmas instead of Halloween, but things don't go as planned. Bonus: You can watch this one ‘til Christmas!

E.T. the Extra Terrestrial (1982 - PG)

Now, this is a blast from the past! Steven Spielberg’s classic tale of a friendly alien who needs the help of a couple of kids is suspenseful but not scary. With science fiction elements and fun, heart-warming moments, this movie is fun for the whole family.

Hocus Pocus (1993 - PG) / Hocus Pocus 2 (2022 - PG)

Two kids accidentally resurrect a coven of evil witches - the Sanderson Sisters - who were executed in Salem, Massachusetts. Will they survive the witches’ evil clutches? You can relive the classic fun with last year’s sequel, too!

Casper (1995 - PG)

Casper, the friendly ghost, recruits a lonely teen girl to help him handle some “unfinished business” before he can leave the house he’s haunting. Combined with some animated hijinks and heart-wrenching young love, this movie is fun for the whole family.

Halloween Movies for Little Kids

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966 - not rated)

It’s just not Halloween without Charlie Brown! This short, animated classic covers Linus’ insistence on the existence of “the Great Pumpkin.” You’ll also see fun Halloween traditions such as trick-or-treating, bobbing for apples, and more.

Super Monsters Save Halloween (2018 - G)

Start a new tradition with this fun animated feature! The characters use their superpowers to help get their friends and neighbors into the Halloween spirit, all while reassuring a scared friend that there’s nothing to fear.

Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest (2013 - G)

Bring back the lovable Curious George you remember and share it with your young kids! It’s a wholesome, toddler-friendly adventure centered around simplified Halloween themes.
