Learn more about CFSS in Minnesota
Last week, our Minneapolis home care agency released a white paper entitled: “Learn the Different Paths to Becoming Certified Disabled in the State of Minnesota”. This white paper is the result of an overwhelming demand from personal care assistants and home care clients seeking credible guidance on the process of certifying a disability. Over the past couple years, this has grown into a major topic in the home health care industry as individuals search for ways to pay for in-home care services. With this new resource, Best Home Care seeks to provide guidance for those navigating the often-confusing path of paying for home care services.
Best Home Care’s white paper also examines the benefits of becoming certified disabled. A certified disability qualifies an individual to receive medical assistance from the state or federal government. The amount of medical assistance will vary from case to case but may be used to pay for PCA services and in home supportive services. In many cases, a disabled individual will be unable to work and depend solely on medical assistance to maintain their livelihood. It’s in these cases in particular that understanding the process to becoming certified disabled is crucial.
In the State of Minnesota, there are two organizations that certify disabilities:
The Social Security Administration: The SSA is an independent agency of the federal government that administers Social Security benefits and medical assistance to those under the age of 65.
The State Medical Review Team: A unit of the Minnesota Department of Human Services that determines disabilities with the consultation of medical professionals.
