And while we focus on helping seniors, children, and individuals living with a disability find quality caregivers, home nurses and personal care assistants that are best suited to support their unique needs, we also like to provide ways to improve home healthcare for caregiver as well.

As we continue to recognize September as World Alzheimer’s Month, we wanted to share an activity that provides plenty of benefits to those living with the disease and how it can also be fun and interactive for both clients and home caregivers.

Here are a few reasons why gardening is an amazing activity for people living with Alzheimer’s:

It’s Relaxing! Gardening is a peaceful and relaxing activity that can be very therapeutic and may even help relieve stress for clients and home caregivers.

It’s Engaging! Planting flowers engages many different senses, including sight, smell, and touch.

It’s Energy Boosting! Gardening is a safe and simple activity, but it still involves getting up and moving around, which makes it a great way to incorporate exercise and boost energy.

It Builds Confidence! Performing the task of planting and tending to flowers, vegetables, or other plants is a fulfilling experience. Clients can see their hard work pay off, which helps create a sense of purpose and self confidence.

It Can Promote Socialization! Community gardens give people a chance to bond over an activity that they enjoy and increases socialization, which is extremely important for people living with Alzheimer’s.
