Home Caregiving in Minnesota: By the Numbers

In fact, Minnesota was one of the first states to adopt Medicaid’s Cash and Counseling Program that provides elderly and disabled individuals funding to pay for home care services.

• 503,500 informal caregivers provided 539 million hours of home care
• $5.3 billion is the estimated value of this informal caregiving
• 8.1% of disabled Minnesotans age 18-64 received some form of at home care
• 31.8% of disabled Minnesotans age 64+ received at home care
• $30 is the average hourly cost for home health care
• $10.80 is the median hourly wage for personal care assistants and home care aides
