Services Available for Parents with Autistic Children

October 9, 2020

Parents of children with autism know that there are plenty of joys but also some extra challenges. If you have children with autism, it’s important for you to know that you're not alone. There are services and people ready to help you! Here are some options for autism support available to you and your family.

Social Worker

This is likely going to be your first step to get any kind of autism support, as in the state of Minnesota, you need a social worker to access any autism services. Social workers are also able to answer any questions you might have about autism, help you find extra autism support if you need it, and be someone you can turn to whenever you’re unsure.

Schooling Support

Once children with autism get to the age where they need to start going to school, seek out extra support such as an IEP (Individualized Education Program) for your child. Classrooms that employ paraprofessionals or teaching assistants can provide extra hands-on support for your child.

Depending on where you live, you may be able to find a specialized school that can offer extra support and care for children with autism. You can also hire at-home tutors to work with your child to make sure they get the most out of their education.

Hire a Personal Care Assistant

Hiring a Personal Care Assistant, or PCA, is an excellent option if you need respite care as your child’s primary caregiver. A PCA for autistic children will provide familial support and engage your child with new sensory experiences and socialization exercises. Having an expert on hand can help not only your child develop and live their life to the fullest, but also provide key autism support to the entire family.

If you and your family think you need some extra support but aren’t sure where to start with autism services, then Best Care is here to make the process easier. We are always here to support you in any way we can! Click here to get the conversation started.
