What Home Care Services are Available for Cancer Patients?

June 12, 2020

Do you have a loved one living with cancer, undergoing cancer treatment, or recovering from a surgery due to an illness? It can be difficult to ask for help, as many people do not want to seem like a burden to their friends and family. However, if a loved one's mobility has been reduced, if he or she isn't able to complete daily care tasks, or if the individual is struggling to focus on recovery due to daily stressors, it might be time to seek the help of a Personal Care Assistant (PCA).

During cancer treatment or recovery at home, PCAs can help make life easier for people fighting cancer. Read on for a few examples of home care services that may be available to people living with cancer.

Homemaking Care

Cancer can cause an individual to have low energy, making daily housekeeping tasks very difficult to complete independently. A PCA can provide light housekeeping services, such as laundry, meals, cleaning, and running errands to support an individual.

Personal Care

A PCA can help with personal care tasks, such as getting in and out of bed, walking, bathing, dressing, and eating. They can also provide reminders to take medications, attend appointments, and complete physical therapy exercises. This type of home care can provide relief to the person recovering, so he or she does not have to over-exert themselves or worry about missing a medication or treatment.

Emotional Care

Fighting a life-threatening disease is exhausting and emotionally draining. A PCA can provide companionship and personal support during this difficult time. Having dependable emotional support can ease a person's stress and worry about an illness.

Respite Care

An individual recovering from cancer may already have a family member providing care, such as a spouse. But PCA can provide respite care for this individual, giving the primary caregiver time to rest or focus on other priorities.

Need Home Care Services?

Hiring a PCA can help an oncology patient focus on recovery. At Best Care, we are uniquely positioned to help identify, train, and pay a family member or friend to provide this type of care to a person living with cancer. Give us a call to talk about your options. We are here to help!
